SUPPORTERS of Upper Lansdowne Public School have intensified their campaign to keep the school open, launching a new Parliamentary petition that could bring the issue before the Parliament of NSW.
The Friends of Upper Lansdowne Public School group announced the latest development earlier this month, describing it as a major step forward in their fight to secure the school’s future.
Following advice from their local Member of Parliament, campaigners escalated their original petition to an official Legislative Assembly e-petition.
The move means that if the petition reaches 20,000 signatures, the matter can be debated in the Parliament of NSW.
In a statement shared online, the Friends of Upper Lansdowne Public School group said, “Following advice from our local member, our petition has now been escalated to a Legislative Assembly Petition.”
The group highlighted the significance of the new petition process and urged supporters to help spread the word throughout the region.
“If we reach 20,000 signatures, our fight to save our school can be debated in Parliament,” the statement said.
Campaigners have encouraged residents across the Mid North Coast and beyond to sign the petition and share it with family, friends and community networks.
“Please sign, share and help us spread the word – every signature matters,” the group said.
The small rural school has become the focus of a strong community campaign, with families, former students and local residents rallying to prevent its closure.
The petition represents the latest chapter in the community’s efforts to preserve the school and maintain access to local education for current and future students.
Supporters hope a strong public response will demonstrate the level of community backing for Upper Lansdowne Public School and help ensure its future remains firmly on the political agenda.
People wishing to support the campaign can sign the petition through the Parliament of NSW’s website.
