WHAT an absolute scorcher last Saturday turned out to be for Work n Play round 15, the final round for 2026.
Ice blocks and chilled water were in high demand among the Tea Gardens Soccer Club (TGSC) players, families and friends, along with somewhere shady to rest up and see to a bacon and egg or sausage sandwich.
Next week will be the club’s grand final and presentation day, kicking off at 9am sharp, followed on Saturday 19 October by TGSC’s Town of Origin Charity Fund-Raising Day.
This year the club’s efforts are focused on helping a talented young local swimmer, Kayleigh Thompson, get to the School Sport Australia National Swimming Championships in Melbourne in November.
In last week’s matches our Minis grade (5&6yrs) games kicked off at 9am sharp thanks to Tasha, George and the volunteer parent helpers. Game one resulted in the Shovelnose Sharks popping 1 goal in to the Wobbegong Sharks’ 5.
In game two at 10am, the Reef Sharks managed 8 goals to the Port Jackson Sharks’ 2. Player of the match vouchers awarded to Leo Landwehr, Bodhi McGrath, Leon Moulds and Will Hood.
Alissa once again volunteered to officiate the Midis grade (7&8 yrs) games. Game one was close, seeing the Mako Sharks 2 and the Hammerhead Sharks 1; and in game two the Bulahdelah Bullets were victorious over the Bull Sharks 7 goals to zip. Player of the match awards went to Alani Worth, Marley Allen and Noah Barker.
Junior grade (9,10,11 yrs) games, refereed by Karen, were played on a newly marked-out full-sized field, ready for next week’s grand final and Town of Origin the week after.
In the first game the Bulahdelah Bullets won 5-2 against the Bronze Whalers and in game two the Tiger Sharks won 9 – 0 over the Bulahdelah Thresher Sharks, with Player of the match awards presented to Xavier Sumner, Luca Fidden, and Thomas Catt.
Our BBQ boys, Mick and Wink, cooked up a storm all morning, keeping players and hordes of supporters well-fed and happy once again.
A huge thank you to both of these volunteers and all the smiling customers for their friendly banter and continued support.
Our Walking Football (60+ yrs) welcomed two visitors all the way from Newcastle! Lizzie and Terri drove up to have a game and see what and how we do things in Tea Gardens, as well as bring a beautiful tray of homemade brownies for our post-game sit-n-sip session.
In a “thank you” text Lissie wrote “had heaps of fun! Felt so welcome and we will be up again for the twilight for sure”. The Walking Football Twilight Season commences 7 October at 5pm. Everyone welcome.
