Myall Melodians’ perform tribute to the stars

STELLAR tributes to all-time classics and favourites were belted out by the Myall Melodians at their annual performance on Tuesday 27 May at the Tea Gardens Grange auditorium.

The Melodians put on a show highlighting well-known songs from stars such as Judy Garland, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler, and Judith Durham.

The “Tribute to the Stars” featured soloists, small groups and unison singing, and some acting – adding variety and humour.

Immaculate as always, the group entertained a full house in a non-stop hour-and-a-half show, led by the indefatigable Musical Director Margaret Rowden.

“We chose those stars from the past, and from our Melodians’ collection of songs,” Margaret Wheatley told News Of The Area.

Songs ranged from “The Rose”, to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “My Way”, while a mixed sextet performed “Ain’t She Sweet”.

One duo shared the “Wind Beneath My Wings”, while “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” had a live guest bugler and everyone tried to “Catch a Falling Star” while reminding themselves that “I Am Australian”.

Before long, it was time for the Seekers’ “The Carnival is Over”.

“Every year we try to do something that is a bit more of a show and get everyone involved,” Margaret said.

The performances are free but donations are handed to a local charity at the end of the year.

“This time we took in over $300, which we will give to a worthy community group.”

The Myall Melodians are a community organisation that has shared their passion for music and choral artistry at many public events throughout the year, and also sing for residents at Peter Sinclair Gardens and Estia.
