Remembering the summer bushfires, together

Remembering the summer bushfires, together

DEAR News Of The Area,

LYNE Together is hosting a meeting on the afternoon of Saturday, 29 August in the Hawks Nest Community Hall, from 1.30 to 3.30 pm.

The meeting will offer our community a chance to reflect on our experiences of the 2026 summer bush fires which started in Bulahdelah and Nerong and were eventually halted just north of Tea Gardens in the Monkey Jacket area. Many in our community were shocked by the persistence and ferocity of these fires.

Representatives of the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Fire and Rescue, and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will attend and present an overview of the fires and their management, and answer any questions from the audience.

Everyone who attends will be encouraged to share their story of the fires, and their learnings from the experience.  It is hoped that the meeting will identify things we might be able to do better, and figure out how we can all be better prepared next time.

The meeting will also give us an opportunity to personally thank everyone who helped fight the fires and kept our community safe.

Attendance is free and there will be tea biscuits for everyone at the end!

Regards,

Andrew Dickinson,

for Lyne Together.
