LETTER: Minimum tide records show a clear trend up

DEAR News Of The Area,

THANK you for putting the information in the paper (‘Are our seas really rising?’, NOTA, 2/9/26) about how to find the tidal records in the paper.

As someone who lives right next to an estuary and sees how varied the timing of low and high tides are each day, I think comparing the mean for the months between 1914 and 2024 would be more reflective of the relevant activity.

The mean for December 1914 was 0.951. For 2024 it was 1.083.

The graph of the minimum tide shows a clear trend up.

When you have to shore up your drive from the tide, it gets your attention more personally.

Regards,

Tracy De Geer,
