Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

OUR golfing year is beginning to wind up for 2026, with the running of championships and trophy events throughout October.

Last week saw Round 1 of the Ladies Short Course Championship, the Medal of Medals Round, and the first round of the Lady Vets Championship.

The inclement weather may have kept the numbers lower than expected, but we managed to complete the week’s fixtures as planned.

Only 17 ladies contested the Saturday Monthly Medal Round, on a soggy morning on the golf course. Congratulations to Julie Hammond, who won the October Medal with a great score of 70 nett. Well done also to Di Rumble Dickson, who chipped in for birdie on the 16th.

24 ladies competed in the Short Course event off the grey tees on a much sunnier Sunday, with great scores carded by both our nett and gross winners. Sue Hair blitzed the field with a fantastic 64 nett, in a game where everything went right! Denise Sainty had an emphatic win in the gross results with 78, which included 2 chip ins for birdie on the 6th and the 10th, finishing nine strokes ahead of the field. Cheryl Rose and Cheryl Foster also chipped in for birdie, on the 2nd and 3rd holes respectively, while Sue Kovacs had a chip in on the 17th. Great golf, ladies!

Tuesday’s event was a smaller than average affair due to the bad weather forecast, which kept our numbers down to just 27 players. The game was both a Monthly Medal Round and the 2026 Medal of Medals Round, where medal winners from throughout the year are invited to compete for the trophy in an 18 hole stroke round. Congratulations to Karen Serhan, who won the 2026 Award with an excellent score of 68, just clear of Marguerite Miller on 69, and Fran Henderson and Sharon Barwick on 70. Well done also to Tina Taylor who played her first 18 hole competition today, and scored the only chip in of the day on the 5th hole. Well played, ladies!

Jeanette Kemp chipped in on the 3rd hole, as did Fran Henderson on the 8th on her way to today’s win – well done!
