ROUND 12 of the local 2026 draw got under way promptly as usual at 9am with six teams, two in each of the three grades, hitting the freshly marked-out fields.
A sprinkle of rain earlier in the morning proved not enough to deter any of the keen players or supporters from rocking up.
The BBQ was busy and the canteen served busily all morning, thanks to the “Walkers” who have stepped up to run it for the last two weeks.
Registrations for our 19 September “Town of Origin” community charity fundraiser fun-day were strong with Donna, and grandson helper Noah, signing up eager players all morning.
Our Minis games results were:
Game one, Shovel Nose Sharks 1 v Wobbegong Sharks 7 with player of the match vouchers awarded to Rocky Phillipson and Benji Evans.
Game two saw the Reef Sharks get on top of the Port Jackson Sharks 5/0 with Player of the match vouchers going to Elijah Smith and Sonny Sutton. Congratulations to you all.
Our Midis grade games resulted in the Mako Sharks popping 6 in to the Hammerhead Sharks 1 with player of the match vouchers awarded to River Howell and Candice Coleman.
Game two was a lot closer ending with the Bull Sharks just behind the Bulahdelah Bullets 1 to 2 respectively.
Elsie Hurkett and Tommy Howard were the happy recipients of the player of the match vouchers.
Junior grade games results were as tight as they can get with remarkable end scores on 3 all draws across both games.
The Tiger Sharks drew against the Thresher Sharks as did the Bronze Whalers and Bulahdelah Bullets.
Player of match awards went to Flynn Barker & Lucca Fidden.
Koby Franks and Reef Gibson made high value contributions to achieve encouragement awards this week and the weekly Lions Sportsmanship award was awarded to Mikayla Coleman from the Bulahdelah Bullets juniors.
The crowd of supporters definitely were treated to some great games, weather, sportsmanship and talent all round. Many smiling faces supporting the Canteen and BBQ throughout the morning.
At the completion of our juniors’ games the walking football players had their turn.
Once again, we had a terrific roll up resulting in around 16 over 60y/o forming two randomly selected mixed teams playing a full game of two 20-minute halves punctuated by a 10 minute +/- rest period, cold bottled water and a welcome sit down.
Every player and the supporters enjoyed a sit’n chat after the game with tea, coffee and some great banter filling the shaded space of the canteen.
See everyone again next Saturday. No walking football game Saturday as we are off to a tournament at Newcastle Uni.
