I’M sure that none of us consider ourselves competent enough to negotiate the end of the present Middle East war between the USA-Israel and Iran, but they had top negotiators from Pakistan to take the middle ground for that purpose.
The US claimed a deal has been agreed, saying they would stop hostilities immediately because Iran has agreed to let ships move freely through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran agreed for the bombings to stop so they could all negotiate what the future would look like for their nation, which controls 20 percent of the world’s supply of crude oil which moves through the Strait.
For the next two days only five tankers were allowed through the Strait each day.
Media speculation suggests that each of those tankers paid a fee of probably US$2 million for the privilege and probably used cryptocurrency so the payment source could not be traced.
So, what could possibly go wrong?
We don’t know if the agreement was written in English, an Arab language or Pakistani.
Maybe if it wasn’t in writing at all because both sides had entirely different views of the deal.
How could the three nations involved in agreeing to critical areas of contention not know or not remember what the actual deal stated?
Can’t these guys read the document in order to see what the deal contained?
This is the point where any semblance of intelligence gets gobbled up in the politics.
Does it say that Israel will no longer go after Hezbollah rebels in Lebanon? Were either Israel or Lebanon involved in the agreement?
I can’t see any mention of those countries being involved or even attending the initial meeting between the USA and Iran.
Again, please read the document.
Whilst it is easy to criticize the ongoing Middle East situation, we are more than likely to see similar confusion at home in relation to the prosecution of our most highly decorated soldier for alleged war crimes.
War is war and I’m sure that dreadful things happen when it becomes killing someone before they kill you, as the only acceptable part of war is to win it.
None of us are aware of the facts other than what we are told by various media reports, so we are on dangerous ground by offering a view.
It will be a case where there are only losers, but I can’t see any result being achieved that might enhance the value of our brave and brilliant military personnel.
