Letter to the Editor: Stop ignoring community voices

DEAR News Of The Area,

JUSTIN Page’s recent comments regarding offshore wind opposition in Port Stephens are a masterclass in political spin, misinformation, and hypocrisy.

It is astonishing to see someone accuse community members of spreading “MAGA-style disinformation” simply because they dare to question the impact of a massive industrial development off our coast.

Residents have genuine concerns about the environmental, economic, and visual impacts of offshore wind turbines – concerns backed by emerging global evidence, including disruptions to marine habitats and fishing industries.

To frame this as some kind of fringe conspiracy tied to foreign politics or fossil fuel groups is both disingenuous and deeply disrespectful to the thousands of locals who have raised their voices.

This isn’t about political games – it is about protecting our region from rushed, top-down developments with inadequate consultation and questionable long-term benefits.

Justin’s attempt to dismiss all criticism as coordinated misinformation only reveals his own political motivations.

If he truly cared about a “fact-based assessment,” he would start by acknowledging the serious and unanswered questions raised by scientists, fishers, tourism operators, and environmentalists – many of whom are far from politically aligned with any political party.

It is time Justin Page and the Hunter Jobs Alliance stopped trying to delegitimise community voices and instead start listening to them.

Regards,
Troy RADFORD,
President,
