Historic Tamboi Queen returns to Port Stephens

THE Original Tea Gardens Ferry has announced the addition of a new vessel to its fleet, with the purchase of the historic Tamboi Queen – a vessel deeply connected to the maritime and tourism history of Port Stephens.

Built in Nelson Bay in 1970 by local boat builder Bob Asquith, the vessel has been part of the fabric of the region for decades.

The much-loved vessel was brought home to Nelson Bay on Friday 1 May, marking a special moment for both the business and the local community.

The Tamboi Queen then travelled to Tea Gardens for a well-earned “spit and polish” before beginning her next chapter on the bay.

Owner and operator Kerrie Jeffreys said the acquisition was both exciting and deeply meaningful.

“She’s a beautiful vessel with such a strong connection to this area,” Kerrie said.

“To be able to bring her back home to Port Stephens and give her a new life on the water is something we’re incredibly proud of.”

The addition reflects the continued growth of The Original Tea Gardens Ferry, which has evolved from a traditional ferry service into a provider of unique on-water experiences.

The ferry continues to play an important role in connecting Nelson Bay and Tea Gardens, supporting local businesses and encouraging visitors to explore both sides of the bay.
