LAST Saturday’s event was an 18 hole Stableford for The Grandmother’s Trophy, traditionally awarded to the best placed grandmother in the field. 40 ladies took part, including visitors from Massey Park GC, Paterson River GC and Kurri GC, with local player Kathy Griffiths taking home the trophy for 2025. There was a flurry of chip ins from the 3 Di’s: Di Davis and Di Bott both on the 12th, and Di Bowes on the 8th on her way to a win today. Maxine Mitchell, Barb Birmingham and Jo Scott also had chip ins.

Despite the overcast skies and cool breeze on Tuesday, Hawks Nest Golf Course was in good shape for the field of 48 ladies contesting the Monthly Medal Round across 3 grades. We welcomed some very happy visitors, including Thora-Lou and Meg from Bulahdelah who haven’t been able to play their own course since April due to the wet conditions.
There was great excitement today when Carolyn Affleck scored a magnificent Hole In One on the 5th. Her drive landed on the green and rolled towards the back, though because her playing partners couldn’t see it on the putting surface, Carolyn thought it may have gone off the back. But it was actually in the hole! Congratulations Carolyn, what an achievement!
Today’s other big winner was Marcia Smith, 1st over the field with 70 nett and 1st in A Grade, as well as Gross Winner in A Grade with 94. Rarely a week goes by without Marcia’s name appearing in the results: so far this year she has had 6 top 3 finishes, and been in the place getters list a further 11 times. And she plays a mean game of putt golf too! Great golf, congratulations Marcia!
Other highlights included chip ins from Robyn Richardson from out of the bunker on the 2nd; Di Bott from 20 metres out on the 16th; Elsa Jones on the 17th from 8 metres out; and Colleen Inskip on the 2nd in her great round today ( 2nd over the field and 1st in C Grade). Some golfing highlights can be simply getting a tricky shot right, so well done to Carol Wiggins, who nailed her drive over the dam on the 18th today. Well played everyone!

Unfortunately, more heavy rain and bad weather led to Thursday’s Lady Vets competition being abandoned this week.
In other great news though, we have a full group registered for our latest round of Get Into Golf, happening on Friday mornings at 11.15. This program aims to help new women golfers build the confidence to play with any group on the golf course. Equipment is provided, and participants are offered 25% off their 1st year of membership at Hawks Nest GC.
