HAWKS Nest Ladies’ Golf Club’s final trophy event for 2026 wrapped up last Sunday with the second round of the Ladies Short Course Championship.
The round was played off the grey tees, with 21 competitors hoping to chase down the round-one leaders in the knowledge they had some great scores to conquer.
And play well they did: Donna Gorton had a fantastic game, blowing the field away with an impressive nett 63; Maxine Mitchell birdied the 11th, and Carol Maher chipped in on the 14th – well played, ladies!

Congratulations are due to all winners and participants in what was a most enjoyable event on the Ladies Golf calendar.
With all the long course championship games done and dusted, it was time to play just for fun in Tuesday’s four- person drop-out Ambrose event.
Eleven teams played for bragging rights on a beautiful spring day, including Lynn Hulston in her first Tuesday comp game.
Some of the highlights included nice teamwork from Janet Aspinall and Cheryl Foster, with a great drive and chip-in for birdie on the 3rd hole, as well as Deb Matheson’s chip-in on the 9th.
The fun continued in the Green Room, where our ladies enjoyed a well-earned beverage at the post match get together.
Results: Four-Person Ambrose 20/10/2026
Overall Winners: 1st Sue Fordy, Anne-Marie French, Sue Hair & Denise Sainty on 62.625; 2nd Deb Matheson, Robyn Wade, Angela Clipperton & Maxine Mitchell 66.125; 3rd Sue Campton, Jan Olsen, Dawn Wiggins & Lynn Hulston 68
Place Getters: Cheryl Foster, Ann Morris, Janet Aspinall & Carol Maher; Jo Buttrey, Sue Kovacs, Di Rumble Dickson & Liz Ross
The good weather drew out a great field in the Lady Vets’ 9-Hole game, with 10 players teeing off.
In a close finish, it was Sue Nicholson who won the day with 17, on a countback from Kate Brown on 17 and Di Nummy on 14.
It came as no surprise when once again, Thursday Lady Vets golf was a wash out, adding to the long tally of missed games on account of the weather.
This was especially disappointing as it led to Round 2 of the 2026 Lady Vets 9 Hole Championship being postponed and Round 3 rescheduled for 5th November.
