Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

PERFECT spring conditions continued last week for the Hawks Nest ladies and their visitors, with a full round of fixtures attracting large fields in our competitions.

The course is in great shape following recent renovations, with the greens and fairways looking absolutely lush. Some stellar golf was played in both of the 18-hole events, with Stableford scores nudging into the 40s across all grades, and the Lady Vets put on a feast of highlights on Thursday.

Congratulations to Tanya Sinclair, whose good form has seen her move up into A Grade this week.

Three grades competed for the honours in Tuesday’s round, with a strong field teeing off in breezy conditions. This certainly wasn’t a problem for our Ladies’ President, Jo Scott, who fired off a fantastic 41 points in what she described as her best game of the year. Other highlights included Carol Maher’s chip in on the 9^th hole from 10m off the green, and a great game from Ann Morris in her first outing following a long layoff. Tanya Sinclair had her first win in A Grade, and birthday girl Elsa Jones also scored well in C Grade – well played, ladies!

Thursday saw a first rate roll up of Lady Vets, boosted by the return of several of our holiday makers and those with health concerns. There were many excellent individual plays, including Dawn Gough’s chip in for birdie from 12m on the 5^th, as well as Sally MacDougal’s chip in for birdie on the 10^th. Julie Freeland chipped in from 22m out on the 6^th, Jeanette Patfield from 19m on the 8^th, Pat Marr had a “brilliant” chip in on the 11^th, June London on the 5^th and Debbie Andrews on the 18^th. Dawn Nealon had a personal best, parring the 1^st hole for the very first time. Karen Serhan also shone on the back 9 with a lovely 31 nett, and Jo Buttrey capped off a good week with a NTP and the points win. Great golf, ladies!
