Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

ON a superb winter’s day last Saturday, another great field of 35 ladies teed off in the 18 hole Stableford competition. There were some very good scores carded over the field but as is often the way, it was the last player home, Robyn Wade, who snatched the win from the clubhouse leader Evelyn Potts. Robyn and Evelyn both had great games, also sharing the honours with the nearest the pin prizes – great golf, ladies!

Perhaps the most colourful Play of the Day belonged to one player whose ball went missing in action on the 14th. She and her partners searched high and low before locating it, nestled snugly up in the ferns in the fork of a tree. Definitely no argument there about an unplayable lie, but it cracked them all up!

The Ladies Foursomes Championships got under way last Tuesday in pleasant, dry conditions. There were 48 ladies in teams of 2, hitting alternately with just one ball, leading to some interesting ball placements – behind trees, in bunkers and in the dam! No wonder foursomes is also called “gruesomes”, or sorry golf! Nonetheless, the match resulted in a very close finish on both the nett and gross leaderboards. While it was a team round, the only individual highlight was Marguerite Miller’s chip in on the 6th from 4 metres out – well played!

Last week we held a raffle after golf to celebrate the King’s Birthday long weekend. A special thankyou to member Ann Marie French, who generously  donated a family meal voucher as one of the prizes. Ann Marie is now the proud owner of Jimmy’s Smash Burgers in Hawks Nest. Our lucky winner was Kristine McMahon, who won a night off cooking!
