LAST weekend saw a welcome break from the rain, with 30 ladies playing in the 18-hole comp under clear skies. Some fine scores were carded, with Sharon Carter taking the honours with a fantastic 41 points.

She was followed by Carolyn Affleck on 38, with Margeurite Miller and Karen Green both just a shot behind on 37. Chip- ins came from Liz Ross for par on the third hole, Tanya Sinclair for par on the 11th, and Sue Campton on the ninth. Well played, ladies!

Despite more grey skies on Tuesday morning, the Hawks Nest Ladies had a great field of 51 ladies tee off in the 18 hole Stableford comp, most of whom managed to finish completely dry.

It was wonderful to see Colleen Inskip back again to the long game after an extended injury break, as well as our junior star Lucy French (who scored three four-pointers in a row on her way to the winners’ circle!).

Welcome also to new residents Ruth Café and Katie Liddell, playing in their first Tuesday 18 hole competition.

Ruth and Katie, along with Tina Taylor and Donna Gorton, are some of our newest graduates from the club’s golf clinics who are now playing in Tuesday 18 hole competitions.

There were many individual highlights today, including a great chip-in for birdie on the fifth from Bec Lewis, and a birdie from Kristine McMahon on the 11th.

Cheryl Foster chipped in on the 17th from about 10m off the green in her winning round.

Carolyn Affleck also had a chip in on the 17th, Roma Bernardin on the 14th and Ann Morris on the 2nd.

In the Tuesday Lady Vets 9 Hole event, there were six starters, including Trish Campbell and Dale McClure.

After playing the back nine, they were joined this week by Di Vercoe and Rhona Smallcombe in the clubhouse for the vets’ regular morning tea – it’s great to see some of our retired or resting players enjoying the social side of our game.

In a minor miracle last week, it didn’t rain on Thursday! The delayed Round 2 of the Lady Vets Championship was played under clear skies with 36 ladies taking part, including Lorraine Bragg after a long layoff.

On the back 9, the Division 1 & 2 group were neck and neck, with only 2 shots separating the top 10 players.

On the front 9, Marg Bonney chipped in on the 2nd from 5m, Viv Ballinger on the 3rd from 7m, and Janet Moore sank a monster putt from the front to the back of the green on the 5th for par.

The final round of the Championship will be played on Thursday 5 October. All lady vets players are encouraged to come for our regular Thursday game, regardless of whether they are vying for the championship or not.

A special morning tea will follow in the club house after the match, even if it rains.
