Changes to MidCoast Council Urban Release Areas

MIDCOAST Council has conducted a review of the Urban Release Areas report conducted in 2021 and made several changes.

Council is now calling on residents to provide feedback on the amendments.

Urban release areas are identified sites that may be considered for future housing or employment opportunities, subject to planning approvals.

Urban release areas are proposed to be developed to cater for the future growth of the MidCoast.

A key driver for the review was the Hallidays Point Technical Studies. In response three urban release areas are now proposed to be removed.

Across the MidCoast, some urban release areas have been removed from the report because they have already been rezoned or are no longer identified for future growth in the Hunter Regional Plan 2041.

The update reflects current planning priorities and provides an accurate picture of land identified for future housing and employment opportunities.
