Thursday 8.10.26 Ladies Semi Final Triples Championship 2026

Today saw 2 rinks of our 3 bowl triples championship:

Dale Winter, Lynda Richards & Maryanne Cuss took on Robyn Webster, Sandra Leisemann & Lorraine Murphy.  This was indeed the battle of the titans !  Two very strong teams fought tooth & nail, with the scoreline changing several times.  Eventual winners with scoreline reading 17-16 were Dale Winter, Lynda Richards & Maryanne Cuss – what a huge tussle this match proved to be !

Our other Semi today was contested between Dawn Jones, Jean Glover & Leona Clissold against Kay Berczelly, Susan Burns & Jane Uff.

I will mention at this point that the original Skip for Dawn Jones’ team was Dot Dallas, unfortunately Dot was unable to attend for medical reasons – the full support & best wishes of TGCC Bowling Club are extended to Dot on a quick recovery.  I’m sure it will not be too long until our ‘sassy’ Dot will join us on the green again.  A very big thank you to Leona Clissold for filling in at the last minute, you’re a ‘good stick’ Leona !

On paper, the experience of Dawn Jones’ team would have put them as the favourites.  On the day our reasonably ‘newbies’ Kay Berczelly, Susan Burns & Jane Uff, actually commanded the green all day with a convincing win 22-11.

Friday Mixed Bowls 9.10.26

Our Friday bowls are proving to be quite popular with both ladies & gents & today 18pp played 3 rinks of 3 bowl triples.

Winners today with the highest score 20-6, receiving $20 each Bette Saillard, Peter Seagrott & Gareth Cuss

We had our ‘lucky loser’ rink with the lowest score, each receiving a drink voucher Ron Berczelly, Sue Burns & Bev Dunn

Tuesday Ladies Bowls 13.10.26

Today was the final of our Ladies 2026 Triples Championships

Dale Winter, Lynda Richards & Maryanne Cuss vs Kay Berczelly, Susan Burns & Jane Uff.

What looked like a total ‘walk over’ at ten ends Dale’s team led 19-4 – but this was a grand final & Kay’s team lifted from their slump and won the next 7 out of 8 ends, but sadly not enough.

Final score 20-17 with 2026 Triples Champions Dale Winter, Lynda Richards & Maryanne Cuss – much congratulations to this strong team of lady bowlers !

There were about 7 other ladies who had a lovely social roll up & all bowlers had a wonderful lunch & a nice drink to celebrate the final of this event.

Raffle winner today:  Kay Berczelly

Wednesday Men’s Gala Day 14.10.26

30 gents turned up today on what looked like it could have been a wet day! It was decided to only play 18 ends & then break for lunch to avoid the predicted inclement weather.  Today’s bowls were played on the synthetic green.

Overall winners with the highest score of 28 were Col Amos, Craig McDonald & Mark Hair

Winners with the lowest winning score of 15 were Chris Fredericks, John Vaughan & Peter Campbell

Winners with the lowest losing margin of 3 were Rob Young, Dave Garcia & Dave Perry.

Congratulations to Kev Barbie on winning The Garden Eatery Voucher & Peter Seagrott on winning the 80 Club.

Friday Mixed Bowls 16.10.26

Another good turn up with 24pp playing 3 rinks of 3 bowl triples on the grass green.

What started out as a beautiful sunny day, turned nasty very quickly & the drizzle, then rain started & play was called off after 5 ends.

Winners with the highest score 11 were Merv Mills, Maryanne Cuss & Bill Hopkins receiving $20 each.

Losers today with lowest score of ‘0’ Jane Uff, Sandra Leisemann & Kay Berczelly, rewarded for their abysmal performance with a free drink !  There is a silver lining to everything in bowls !

Lucky Robyn Webster won the 40 Club with number 23.

Today marks the end of the ‘Trial Period’ of Friday Mixed Bowls.  It clearly is quite popular & will continue, still with a $10 entry fee.  There will be no more free drink vouchers.  And future winners will receive a cash prize put on their member card – depending on the number of people attending on the day ! So please keep attending & continue to have fun!

Saturday & Sunday Annual RSL Bowls Tournament 17th & 18th October 2026

I’ve learnt today that this is an annual event and 2026 is the third anniversary of this event.

It all started in 2024 when Terry Munright, Secretary of Tea Gardens Sub Branch applied to NSW Department of Sport & Recreation for a grant to help & bolster the camaraderie & mental health of our veterans in the way of a sporting event.  2024 started the Tea Gardens RSL Bowls Tournament.  So the invites went out to neighbouring Sub Branches:  Newcastle area, Karuah, Buladelah & Central Coast.

Those who attend this day, know only too well that it’s not about the bowls, but the food & the fun & laughs had by all

This weekend saw quite a few veterans come from Newcastle area, Central Coast & local Tea Gardens vets & a big thank you to some of the local Tea Gardens bowlers, who happily filled in to make the appropriate number of teams.

Results for Round 1 on Saturday morning winners were Team 6 Garry Clark, Graham Uff & Ron Berczelly

Round 2 played on Saturday afternoon were Team 4 – skip Danny Johnson

Round 3 played on Sunday morning were Team 2 – Ron Berczelly, Merv Mills & Karen Green

Overall winners:  Chris Fredericks, Garry Porter & Bill Heylbut – who won the annual shield

The event finished with a lunch of an enormous amount of fresh prawns, & deli meats & salad & desserts.

A massive thank you must go out to Terry Munright, Ron Green & Mal Motum for putting together this wonderful weekend of good spirited sport & camaraderie – bring on 2027 !
