MidCoast students urged to dive in and enter student writing competition

PRIMARY school, high school and homeschool students across the MidCoast are encouraged to get their entries in soon to the National Water Week Junior Writing Prize.

Students are encouraged to submit a short story, poem or work of creative non-fiction that explores the theme ‘Water Connects Everything’, with the competition closing on Friday, 25 September.

It’s an opportunity for creatively minded students to showcase their talents and take home attractive prizes, MidCoast Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott said.

“This is a call-out for young wordsmiths across the region to dip their toes into the world of water,” said Mr Scott.

“We loved reading all the entries we received last year, not only because they were entertaining and engaging, but also because they gave us a great insight into the awareness young people have around the need to protect and preserve this precious resource.”

Mr Scott said entries to date were down slightly on last year, which was even more reason for students to take part.

“With EFTPOS gift cards available to placegetters in the Primary School, Junior High School and Senior High School categories, you could win yourself some handy spending money,” said Mr Scott.
