Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

IT’S been another big week at ladies’ golf, with 3 competitions, including a Monthly Medal, a Championship decider, and the Single Match Play and Plate finals.

Saturday’s event was the June Monthly Medal, with 34 starters in the 18 hole stroke round. Jo Scott came in at the top of the leaderboard with a great score of 71 nett, closely followed by Robyn Wade on 72.

Jo Buttrey had an impressive day too, winning both nett and gross in A Grade, a nearest the pin, AND the raffle!

The only chip in was from Di Rumble Dickson, from 5 metres out on the 9th hole – lovely golf, ladies!

Tuesday’s game was Round 2 of the Ladies Foursomes Championships for 2026. There were 52 starters in a big field this week, including 2 mother and daughter teams: Carolyn Affleck teamed up with daughter Kristine McMahon, while Ann Marie French paired with daughter Lucy to be our youngest competitors. The leaderboard from round 1 was crowded, so there was some determined golf needed to take the honours. Marg Bonney’s chip in from 7 metres on the 17th was one of the many individual highlights, but it was teamwork that made the dream work for our championship winners, in the closest of finishes.

Hawks Nest Lady Golfers were saddened this week to learn of the passing of Ann Browning. Ann was a beautiful, gentle lady who loved her golf, her friends, and a good glass of red. She was a long time player at Hawks Nest, and one of our beloved Golden Girls. As a senior Lady Vet, she encouraged new players by sharing her experience and knowledge of the game, and always with a smile that would light up the room. Ann will be deeply missed by us all. May she rest in peace.
