MIDCOAST Council says a major upgrade of the Hawks Nest Sewage Treatment Plant is on track to be completed in the first half of 2027.
Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the upgrade is one of the most significant projects Council has undertaken in the southern part of the local government area.
“Not only will it allow for continued development in Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest, it will also benefit the local environment by ensuring the quality of effluent that is discharged from the plant continues to meet our licensing requirements,” he said.
Mr Scott said a considerable part of the major works involved in the project were on track to be completed over the coming months, including the construction of two new clarifiers, a new inlet works and new aeration systems. The mechanical and electrical fit-outs are also expected to be finished by the latter part of 2026.
The project will then move into the commissioning stage, which will continue throughout the early parts of 2027.
