Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

LAST Tuesday saw 50 ladies play in Hawks Nest Ladies Golf Club’s annual Charity Day fundraising event, which was a huge success.

More than $3,000 was collected in support of causes close to our hearts, as players witnessed some of their fellow club members and friends in the battle of their lives, facing serious illness.

As in previous years, the Charity Day raised funds for research into causes such as breast and ovarian cancer, in the hope of developing effective treatments and potentially a cure.

Despite the grey skies, the golf course was alight with the vibrant colours associated with breast cancer awareness – pink,  and ovarian cancer awareness – teal. This year the ladies also chose to wear colours representing other causes close to their hearts, so we saw teams in orange – blood cancers, and MND’s icy blue. It  made for quite a spectacle, creating a joyful energy to the day with teams vying for the best-dressed award.

Players bought themselves a pocketful of “cheats” designed to get the ball in the hole with just a few shots, requiring some degree of strategy, cunning and teamwork, all in the name of fun for a good cause.

There were also fabulous prizes in the raffles afterwards, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, including Hawks Nest Pro Shop, Myall Coast Realty, Tea Gardens Ferry, Estia Health, Krystal Fenton and Jimmy’s Smash Burgers.

In addition, the club is extremely grateful for the generous donations made by clubs and individual members of the community.
