THURSDAY the 11th saw a good field of 45 ladies play the Lady Vets 9 hole event, in hot and humid conditions. Di Rumble Dickson continued her hot streak with a 36 nett on the front 9, but Marlene Stokes won the day after firing 36 nett on the back nine, which gave her a winning score of -11. Only one chip in today, from Ann Browning on the 16th.

The Tuesday competition was popular this week, with 42 ladies playing an 18 hole Stableford event. One player got a little more than she had bargained for with her 2nd shot on the 11th hole. Julie Freeland hit a great shot, but had an unlucky bounce when her ball raised a cloud of dust and veered right. She guessed it had hit a stick, until the stick began to move off the fairway at speed. Closer inspection revealed a 2 metre red bellied black snake who’d been hit, on the full, and was very cranky! Thankfully it survived to live another day. Other more orthodox highlights included Karen Serhan’s great round, with a winning score of 39, and Fran Henderson’s 15 metre chip in from the bunker on the 2nd hole.

Another hot and humid morning greeted the 41 Lady Vets last Thursday, but spirits were high for our favourite 9 hole event of the week. Karen Serhan continued her good form with 2 chip ins, one on the 11th, and a cracker from 35 metres out on the 15th. Betty Clinch was pretty happy with her chip in from the bottom of the hill behind the 9th green. Di Bowes birdied the 16th after a great tee shot, which landed less than a metre from the pin. Well played, ladies!
