Exploring end-of-life options in Bulahdelah

A FREE End of Life Expo was held at the Bulahdelah War Memorial Hall on Wednesday 2 April.

The Expo was a collaboration between the Bulahdelah Men’s Shed and End of Life Doulas Kim O’Donnell and Nicky Hammerl.

Guest speakers at the Expo included Leonie Reisberg of Personalised Urns, Winter Legal Director Emma Rowles, Bob Bonner from the Bulahdelah Men’s Shed, WT Howard Funerals, Palliative Care,
Carer Gateway, Manning Great Lakes Memorial Gardens, MidCoast Council Cemeteries, and Services Australia.

The Bulahdelah Men’s Shed provided a free sausage sizzle and showcased their creations including coffins/caskets and wooden urns.

“The Men’s Shed are building and selling modestly priced coffins/caskets and wooden urns to offer locals a cheaper option,” an event spokesperson told NOTA.

Launched in April 2013, the Men’s Shed group has outgrown its current premises behind the Bulahdelah War Memorial Hall, and are in the process of moving to the Bulahdelah Golf Course.

They received a grant to purchase a shed frame, however as they have not received funding to build the shed, they will be building it themselves.

“They hope to have the shed built by June 2025, however funds are required to complete the inside fit out,” the spokesperson said.

The Men’s Shed is currently open to new members, especially those with an interest in assisting with running the group, or those with a background in accounting/bookkeeping.

The group also appreciates any donations of funds or assistance.
