Final works to upgrade Mungo Brush Road should be finished by Christmas

THE final stage of upgrades to Mungo Brush Road will begin this month, with work expected to be completed by Christmas 2026.

The 4.7-kilometre section between Mungo Brush Campground and the northern access ramp to the Bombah Point Ferry will be upgraded as part of the Australian and NSW Governments’ Infrastructure Betterment Fund.

For residents, businesses and visitors, the work will mean changed traffic conditions, including traffic control, contraflow arrangements and increased heavy vehicle movements.

Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys, with occasional short delays expected while construction is underway.

Work will generally take place between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Drivers are being reminded to obey temporary speed limits, traffic controls and signage to keep workers and road users safe.

The upgrade is aimed at reducing the impact of flooding and improving access along the important link between Hawks Nest, the Bombah Point Ferry and Myall Lakes National Park.

Mungo Brush Road has suffered significant flood damage and lengthy closures, including during the 2024 and 2025 floods.

The final works will strengthen the road pavement, improve stormwater drainage, increase driver safety and install rock protection in areas damaged by floods and storms.

The first stage of the broader project has already seen pavement repairs and resealing along six kilometres of Mungo Brush Road, starting near the southern park boundary at Hawks Nest.

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said the upgrades would provide greater resilience to flooding, damage and closures.

The project was announced in May 2024 under the Infrastructure Betterment Fund, a joint Australian and NSW Government initiative designed to rebuild disaster-damaged infrastructure to a stronger and more resilient standard.
