MEMBER for Port Stephens Kate Washington has taken a liking to the fast-growing sport of pickleball.
The athletic local member was a special participant at a recent Port Stephens Pickleball Club Skills and Drills Day event at the Tomaree Sports Complex netball courts, and passed the test with flying colours.
She joined 40 players from the Port Stephens club and the whole crew from Nelson Bay Physiotherapy Centre on court for a good half-hour skills and drills session.
Donning a fashionable sporting outfit, Kate proved to be a natural as she demonstrated her racquet skills, endurance and all-round flair.
Having their local Member of Parliament witness first hand the energy, passion and community spirit of the Port Stephens Pickleball club means so much to every one of the club’s 220 members.
A delighted Kate told News Of The Area that the sport of pickleball continues to grow rapidly in the Port Stephens region.
“And for good reason – it’s a heap of fun and they even let me loose on a court,” she said.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the club for showing me their skills, being patient with me on court ,but most importantly for keeping locals active and connected to the game with such enthusiasm,
“The sport of pickleball really is about keeping people active and connected, and that is exactly what Port Stephens Pickleball Club is all about.”
