THE STARS came out at the Pindimar-Bundabah Winter Warmer Trivia Night, celebrated in classic local fashion at the Pindimar Fire Shed on Saturday 25 July.
The theme of this year’s Winter Warmer was ‘Hollywood Glamour Op-Shop’, which sent many hunting through local op shops, others unearthing long-held heirlooms, to augment their omnipresent fashion ensembles.
The Pindimar Fire Shed held dozens of culture personalities, alongside genuinely glamorous red-carpet attire, all of whom were up for the ‘Best Dressed’ prize, which was eventually won by Tim, channeling Mexican folk and film hero Zorro, and Sharon’s authentic 1920s Prohibition-era style.
Other essences present included Indiana Jones, various cowboys and jillaroos, a James Bond or two, several fur coats (real and not-so-much), many big hats and robes, and even a Clark Kent/Superman transformation.
Several local traditions returned, including the coin toss for the all-too-good locally brewed butterscotch schnapps– this year’s batch was particularly smooth among its predecessors.
Soup and damper was served, lovingly prepared by the Pindimar Bundabah Community Association team, just one of many efforts over days in prelude to the event.
Trivia ensued in several rounds, topics ranging from movies, to music and actors, famous lines, and even devilish anagrams, with a truly baffling Baffler question over-arching all.
One or two actors’ names were butchered in the process, however there was enough movie trivia prowess within the room to make out all the questions, and most of the answers, as the Kathys (Kathy Gillespie and Kathy Jones) led the affair with an early start.
Veterans of the event, both KG and KJ managed to corral the crowd through pub-style trivia questions, costume and drawing competitions, and eventual awards presentations, with trivia team ‘7th Heaven’ coming in first after a three-way tie for second.
The usually drafty hall was warmed by an expertly maintained wood heater, and the several dozen bodies present, so many were reluctant to step out into the unrelenting cold when it was all over by 9pm.
The enormous effort by the Committee of the PBCA cannot be underestimated, nor shall it be when the annual Pindimar Markets come around, on again and scheduled for Saturday 24 October this year.
“What a great night! Thanks so much for everyone who attended this year and supporting the PBCA, this event supports things the PBCA builds and improves around our towns,” Kathy Jones said.
