AS the world continues to spin faster, it is becoming increasingly important that we find something that will slow it down.
Something outdoors, surrounded by nature with no pressures.
A recreation that exposes us to the beauty that surrounds us plus offers family engagement.
We may even be rewarded with a contribution to the evening meal.
The answer is fishing!
The best time to start the fishing journey is as soon as possible.
I don’t know exactly how many years I have been spending a morning each year on Little Beach with the “Karingal Kids”.
Grandparents and parents accompany the three-and four-year-olds as we untangle lines, bait the hooks and learn to cast out off the beach.
Amazingly every year we catch fish!
Recently the crew landed whiting, flathead and a tiny snapper.
Every fish brought a scream of delight before a photograph and the release back into the water to watch it swim away.
As it is with “littlies”, the kids’ attention span is only so long before it is more inviting to jump in or dig a hole.
The best part is to witness the bubbling excitement that fishing generates.
I can only hope that this first introduction leads to a greater involvement.
