THE Myall Masters Swimming Club sent a small but mighty contingent to Cessnock to compete in the Hunter Valley Masters swim meet on Saturday 21 March.
The two Myall Masters representatives in the pool were Colin Kindred and Christine Sefton.
Colin, who competed in the men’s 80-84 age group, is enjoying his first season with the Myall club.
Contesting the 100 metre freestyle, and 50 metre butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle races, he earned fourth place in his division, in just his second competitive carnival.
“Colin has gone from strength to strength over the summer, training twice weekly at Tea Gardens pool, and he never scrimps on effort, never holds back,” Masters member Sharon Taylor told NOTA.
“If offered an easy 25 metre lap to recover, Colin will often pump out a lap of butterfly – or ‘flutter-by’, as he likes to call it, just to keep building his fitness.”
Experienced club member Christine Sefton was dominant in the 55-59 women’s age group at the carnival.
“Christine is always a joy to watch,” Sharon reported.
“She made 400 metres look easy, and had plenty left in the tank for 100 metres each in the breaststroke and freestyle, and a quick little 50 metres of breaststroke, too.”
Christine won all her races convincingly, earning top points for her efforts.
The Myall Masters were also represented at the swim meet by club officials, with Linda Stubbs and Sharon Taylor performing the roles of Marshall and Inspector of Turns.
