CHRISTMAS party week at the club. The Vets played a 3-clubs-plus-putter stableford on Thursday 18th December followed by lunch and celebrations. The winner was Don Schoonhoven with 38pts from Craig Littlechild with 34pts on a c/b from Steve Clifford. It was Ray Mansell’s (The Who) day for NTPs – snagging 3 of them. Don got the other NTP, and Steve Clifford won the jackpot, but no birdie putt. The Vets will return to the course mid-January.
Saturday 20th December was the annual Christmas 3-person Ambrose sponsored by Al Jobson and Barbie Gordon. 92 players contested the event (some more serious than others). After a shotgun start at 9am, all players were in out of the heat by 2pm, but many needed “cooling down” for some hours! Some great scores were posted and the winners were Toby Carroll, Rasta Carroll & Alison Benson with 56nett on a c/b from Wayne Pollard, Ray Mansell & Rick Winter. 3rd were Arrin Gardiner, Mick Gardiner & Peter Billinghurst with 56.2nett and 4th were Ken Hughes, Daryl Harvey & Kevin Martin with 56.4nett (and the best off the stick 61gr.). Of the 31 teams, 18 scored less than 60nett – a great effort. The Bradman award (score withheld) AND the best dressed team went to Mick Dorney, Kurtis Barry and Brandon Watt. NTPs went to Bob Denelzen, Barbie Gordon (x2), Luke Barry and Jacob King. Daryl Harvey, Bernie Newton and Jamie Gordon were the longest drivers. Glenn Grainger made sure of the 8th NTP with a Hole-In-One! The players enjoyed a delicious BBQ and sweets after the game as well as many stories of what might have been.
Happy Christmas and New Year to all – Saturday golf will continue in January.
