MIDCOAST Council is preparing a coastal management program that will guide how it manages almost 10 per cent of the NSW coastline.
Council is encouraging residents to ask questions online, offer feedback on proposed actions, and attend a pop-up Q and A at a scheduled session in their area.
“The 10-year program will guide how we manage much of the coastline from Crowdy Head to Hawks Nest,” said Council’s Manager Natural Systems, Gerard Tuckerman.
In 2025 consultants collected data along our coastline to inform and update hazard mapping. The mapping shows the probability of coastal processes impacting the coastline over the next 100 years.
Council says the coastline will experience coastal erosion and shoreline recession, and some impacts are expected to occur before 2060.
Council is now consulting with affected property owners and the wider community.
Residents can view the online map to see predicted impacts on the coastline. There is also an information booklet that explains the coastal processes, impacts and the management actions.
People can ask questions online or provide information and feedback on the proposed actions. There is also the opportunity to ask the coastal planner questions at a local pop-up.

Hawks Nest (Bennetts Beach near Surf Life Saving Club) Thursday 8 October 10am – 12pm
Black Head (reserve near Surf Life Saving Club) Sunday 11 October 8:30 am – 11:30 am
Forster One Mile Beach (reserve near Surf Life Saving Club) Sunday 18 October 8:30 am – 11:30 am
Seal Rocks Number One Beach Reserve Tuesday 20 October 10am – 12pm and
Crowdy Head (reserve near Surf Life Saving Club) Sunday 1 November 8:30 am -11:30 am.
After the consultation, a draft coastal management program will be prepared. It will be placed on public exhibition for final community feedback.
Council says this program will provide a clear direction for the future management of our coastline.
