Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

THE Hawks Nest Ladies Golf Championships wrapped up for 2026 last week, with the completion of Round 3 on Tuesday. 40 ladies played across 3 grades for the top honours this year, and all are to be commended for participating in this hotly contested championship event. The ladies played 54 holes of stroke over 3 weeks, a test of endurance in all weathers, where every shot counted.

Our Ladies Club Champion for 2026 is Kristine McMahon, with runner up Deb Matheson.

Our Division 2 Scratch Winner is Tanya Sinclair, with runner up Fran Henderson.

Our Division 3 Scratch Winner is Elsa Jones, with runner up Liz Edmonds.

Our Nett winners are Division 1 Liz Ross, with R/U Jo Buttrey; Division 2 Sue Campton, with R/U Jo Scott; Division 3 Donna Clemens, with R/U Sharon Barwick.

Winner of the Robyn Rumble Memorial Trophy for the Best Nett Score after 54 holes was Elsa Jones.

Tuesday’s round was played in calm and dry conditions, a pleasant change from previous weeks. Individual highlights included Kristine McMahon’s lovely chip in for birdie on the 16^th; Jeanette Patfield’s chip in for par on the 7^th from 8m out; and other chip ins from Liz Edmonds (1^st) and Sue Hair (16^th). Sharon Barwick also sank a 10m putt on the 7^th hole.

Last Saturday’s round was a welcome Stableford round, with 27 ladies teeing off in ideal winter conditions. Individual highlights included Deb Matheson’s 4 pars, Maxine Mitchell and Carolyn Affleck having  3 each in their prize winning rounds. There were only 2 chip ins, from Janet Moore on the 18^th and Marguerite Miller on the 3^rd, while Angela Clipperton scooped the pool with 2 NTPs in her round today.

Once again, Thursday’s Lady Vets game was rain affected, with only 23 players taking part in the 9 hole event. But Sue Ward continued to drive the ball well throughout her game, and Dawn Nealon was chuffed to score well on the 7^th after reaching the green in 3. Jeanette Patfield had the only chip in of the day on the 2^nd – well played, ladies.

The Hawks Nest Par 3 Championships were played on Friday last week, with 40 ladies taking part along side the men. Congratulations to winner Robyn Richardson who won with a fine score of 43, closely followed by runner up Janet Moore on 42 – great scores, ladies!

Hawks Nest Ladies Golf wishes to extend condolences to the family of our former member, the late  Diane Allen. Diane played golf here for many years, well into her 80’s, and was quite a character. She was fiercely independent in all that she did, and was often seen out walking or riding her bike up to 12 kms a day into her 90’s. Diane loved all animals and the natural world, and had a quirky sense of humour. She will be missed – may she rest in peace.
