LAST Saturday we all got back onto the field after a long break due to flooded fields.
The last play day was prior to the school holidays and season games are not played during the school holidays.
There was, however, a Goal Keeper Clinic on Friday 17 July that was well attended by many players, parents and volunteers.
On Saturday, 25 July, we played “The Hawks Nest Golf Club Round 9” games, attended by Beth and Sam Oats (HNGC) with children Lachlan and Freya joining in on all the fun, sport and BBQ breakfast on a brisk but gloriously sunny winters’ morning.
George refereed our minis grade games. Game 1 saw the Port Jackson Sharks pop in 4 to the Reef Sharks 6. Players of the match were Sonny Sutton and Cobus Vander Linden.
Game 2 ended with the Shovel Nose Sharks going down to the Wobbegong Sharks 1 goal to 8. Players of the match were Leo Landwehr and Bodhi McGrath.
Our Midis grade games, refereed by Tom, results were Hammerhead Sharks 8 v Mako Sharks 1 and in game 2 the Bulahdelah Bullets 7 v Bull Sharks 0.
Our junior grade games were once again refereed by volunteer Karen with the results being Tiger Sharks 5 v Bulahdelah Thresher Sharks 8 and game 2 the Bronze Whaler Sharks v Bulahdelah Bullets 3 goals apiece.
After all the Round 9 games had been completed a record number of over 50s Walking Football players mustered and began their warm ups, stretches and welcome banter before donning their Hi-Viz vests and taking to the pitch. We were joined by, and offered welcomes to, two newbies – John and his wife Karen – who dropped in to see what it was all about. John took to the field and Karen was happy to support from the sideline with several others who all enjoyed the afternoons’ goings on.
The eight-a-side game, that had nine on one side, consisted of two 20-minute halves and ended up with a score that wasn’t recalled by anyone, not even at our usual post-game sit’n’chat cuppa after the game.
Thanks to Donna for bringing along some Lamingtons which were the perfect complement to our teas and coffees, Lyn for dealing with this week’s laundry, and Robyn for supplying some bottles of water for next week.
