Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

THE Hawks Nest Ladies Open Day was held on Friday 24 July, with 28 teams of four players from 16 clubs all competing for a slew of great prizes.

Major sponsor, Myall Coast Realty continued its support of women in our community by contributing tto this event. Kirsten  Adam, from MCR, said she was following in her parents’ footsteps in getting behind local events, and hoped to play golf herself in the future at Hawks Nest.

Kirsten and the Myall Coast Team will also sponsor the upcoming Girls Gala on the Greens on Sunday/Monday 20 -21 September.

It was a chilly start to the day for the players, but everyone had fun out on the course before adjourning to the clubhouse for some warm hospitality from Sando’s at the presentation lunch.

There were fundraising activities and games during the afternoon, and we’d like to thank all who took part for their donations to our chosen cause, research into Motor Neurone Disease.

PERSISTENT showers kept the numbers low on Saturday, July 18 with only 17 hardy ladies finishing the game.

Tuesday was a much better day on the golf course, where 38 ladies took part in Round 1 of the very popular Mumms on the Myall Trophy.

Perfect winter conditions made the day an absolute pleasure for the ladies as they paired for a 2BBB game.

Perhaps everyone had been watching the exciting British Open, because there were six birdies scored today: Tanya Sinclair chipped in for birdie on the 17^th, from 30 metres out  and in the rough, for an impressive 5 points!

She also had a chip in on the 2^nd hole.

Kristine McMahon birdied the 12^th after hitting her second shot beautifully from 110m, to land less than 50cm from the pin, for an easy putt and 4 points.

Anne-Marie French birdied the 17^th with a great  chip in from 37 m and 4 points, as well as scoring a chip in for par on the 4^th from 17m out.

The 16^th hole was a popular birdie hole, with 3 ladies driving onto the green, each making their putts stick -well done Deb Matheson, Rosalie Rajki and Cheryl Foster.

Well done also to Helena Wilton who hit a lovely chip in on the 6^th from 2m off the green. Great golf, ladies!

Tuesday’s beautiful weather also enticed 9 of our Lady Vets out for the 9 hole game today.

Thursday was another splendid winter’s day, which saw 38 Lady Vets play the 9 hole round. It was great to see Colleen Inskip back at golf after a 10 month layoff due to injury, Janet Merryweather back from her travels, and Rosalie Rajki returning for more mid coast sunshine from icy Ballarat.

Individual highlights today included chip ins from Marg Bonney on the 15^th from 15m out; Sharon Barwick also on the 15^th from 9m; and Ann Morris on the 16^th from 8m. Fran Henderson and Jeanette Kemp both finished with 34 nett at the top of the leaderboard – well played, ladies!
