Hawks Nest Bitou Busters tackle mother-of-millions weeds

EIGHT hardy Bitou Buster volunteers ignored the gloomy weather and turned out at Winda Woppa in Hawks Nest on Sunday 24 May, to tackle the ever-invasive mother-of-millions weed.

Rain had forced the group to cancel their weeding plans the previous day, but Sunday’s weather brought a spectacular rainbow and a perfectly timed two-hour break in the showers.

This allowed them to continue their important environmental restoration work.

The infestation of mother-of-millions had grown dramatically since the group’s last visit a year ago.

Over more than 90 minutes, members removed enough weeds to fill more than 16 bags and one red wheelie bin.

Bitou Buster Co-ordinator, Trish*, said it was a fantastic effort by everyone involved.

Following the morning’s efforts, and just as the rain returned, volunteers enjoyed a well-earned coffee.

The group’s next working bee at Winda Woppa will be held on Saturday 27 June; meeting at 9am.

New volunteers are always welcome.
