Council: No plans to close Tea Gardens depot

MIDCOAST Council has confirmed there are no plans to close its Tea Gardens depot.

Council is currently reviewing the structure of its Transport and Engineering workforce to “align with community needs across the local government area”.

General Manager Adrian Panuccio said Council understood there had been community discussion about the future of the Tea Gardens depot and wanted to provide clear information.

“The Tea Gardens depot is not proposed for closure as part of this process,” Mr Panuccio said.

“This workplace change is focused on how we organise our transport and engineering teams so our people, budgets and responsibilities are better aligned to the work that needs to be delivered across the MidCoast.

“There may be changes to where some staff work from, how some teams are structured, and how functions are managed.

“The changes link to Council’s three priorities for improvement across roads, financial sustainability and customer service.

“The changes are being considered carefully and in consultation with staff,” Mr Panuccio said.

Council said its review aims to support clearer accountability, better coordination of resources and sustainable service delivery, while maintaining a presence in key areas including Tea Gardens.

Council has committed to working directly with affected staff as part of the workplace change process.

This includes considering feedback, assessing operational needs and reviewing budget impacts before final decisions are made.
