Fire safety education opportunity as Gloucester Fire Station opens its doors

FIRE and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will be throwing its doors open to the public again next month with important safety advice for adults and fun opportunities for the kids.

Tea Gardens Fire and Rescue Station will be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 9 May, showcasing its fire trucks, equipment and highly-trained firefighters.

There will be a range of free activities on offer including firefighting demonstrations, station tours and safety presentations.

Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions about home fire safety, smoke alarms and the risks relating to lithium-ion batteries.

FRNSW Station Officer James Wisemantel said the Open Day is a terrific opportunity for firefighters to interact with the community they serve.

“Come along for an exciting day out, get a close up look at our fire trucks, learn how we operate and ask us about safety advice or even how to join,” he said.

“We are happy to provide advice about how to make your home safe from fire and how to prevent a lithium-ion battery from overheating.

“Lithium-ion batteries aren’t just found in e-bikes, they’re used to power almost everything portable from an electric toothbrush to a stick vacuum cleaner.

“We can discuss the best safeguards to avoid a kitchen fire or help you create a home fire escape plan.”

Visitors to the Open Day can also book in a free safety visit from FRNSW staff.
