Hawks Nest Ladies Golf

A BIG field of 46 ladies played in Saturday’s round, including 20 visitors. We were joined by 17 players from Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club, as well as others from Nelson Bay, Tanilba Bay and Merewether. Conditions were perfect for the 18 hole Stableford event, with the local ladies leading the way: Denise Sainty chipped in for par on the 1^st hole; Jo Scott had a chip in on the 4^th; and Maxine Mitchell was deadly accurate, taking both NTPs in her division. Only one shot separated the first 3 players, with Antje Basson winning on a count back from Di Bowes, Eveyln Potts taking 3^rd place.

The March Monthly Medal was contested on Tuesday, with 37 ladies taking part in 3 grades. Most players found the damp and furry greens hard to read today, and the rough lived up to its nickname of The Velcro. But there were some great individual highlights, with 3 ladies scoring 2 chip ins each: Sue Kovacs on the 10^th & the 18^th; Fran Henderson had 2 in a row on the 16^th & 17^th; and Sue Brownrigg had 2, each for par, on the 10^th & the 16^th. Nice work!

Thursday’s Lady Vets 9 Hole event was played off the grey tees, with 49 ladies teeing off in pleasantly cool conditions. It was lovely to welcome Margeurite Miller and Carol Hussey back to vets golf after long absences from vets golf. There were some great individual highlights today, with Kay Webb improving yet again on her recent PB, and Mim Murdoch playing her best game in quite some time. She was secretly chuffed to outdrive team mate Jeanette Kemp a couple of times, and sank some very long putts in her round of nett 49. Other honorable mentions go to Denise Sainty, who had a birdie on the 3^rd hole with a 20 metre putt, in an impressive round of 43 off the stick; Jo Scott who chipped in for a birdie on the 5^th with a 17 metre shot with her 8 iron; Karen Serhan who chipped in on the 9^th and Jan Olsen on the 8^th ; and Viv Ballinger who finished with a lovely nett 33 – well played everyone!

Congratulations to the Hawks Nest Ladies Pennant Teams on their wins over the weekend. The Scratch Team defeated Maitland 5/1 at Horizons, while the Bronze Team defeated Waratah (the competition leaders) 6/0 at home. Well played, ladies!
